Click to read about a patient how was admitted to the hospital for an infected wound. After which he started to receive wound care from Dr. Noor.
This patient presented to the ER at Buffalo General Hospital on 11/30/24 with an infected foot wound and exposed bone, and osteomyelitis. The patient had recently lost his home and means of providing for himself. The patient was seen by Dr. Noor shortly after being admitted to the hospital, for an amputation consultation. The team decided on a limb salvage option and debrided the wound and dressed with Santyl. The patient’s wound was 6 cm x 5 cm post debridement on 12/05/24.
Following, extensive wound care treatments including excisional debridement (medical procedure to remove dead, damaged, or infected tissue), skin substitute application to promote tissue regeneration, and negative pressure wound therapy to help stimulate the healing process. The patient’s wound has shrunk by more than half its size as the most recent measurements from 02/07 are 2.4 cm x 2.5 cm. Our hope is to salvage this patient’s foot so that he remains independent and can take care of himself. Amputations are associated with 30 to 40% mortality over the next 3 to 5 years.
Proper wound care is vital in achieving optimal healing and reducing the risk of infection, complications, and discomfort. Whether it’s a minor scrape or a chronic wound, following the appropriate steps for cleaning, dressing, and monitoring the wound can make a world of difference in the healing process.
